Alternating Current (AC) is an electric current that reverses direction periodically. Unlike Direct Current (DC), where electrons flow in a single direction, in AC the flow of electric charge changes direction back and forth at regular intervals. The voltage in AC also varies with time, usually in a sinusoidal (sine wave) form. Advantages of AC over DC : 1.Easy to transform: AC voltage can be stepped up or down using transformers. 2.Efficient transmission: High voltage AC reduces power loss over long distances. 3.Economical for power grids: AC is used in homes, industries, and cities due to easy distribution. Applications of AC: 1.Domestic: Power supply for lighting, fans, and appliances. 2.Industrial: Running motors, machinery, and large equipment. 3.Transmission: Long-distance electricity distribution via the power grid. Alternating current is a type of electric current that reverses direction periodically, usually in a sinusoidal waveform. Its frequency, amplitude, and RMS value are important parameters. AC is preferred for power transmission because it is easy to transform to different voltage levels and can travel long distances efficiently.
